VpnHood! CLIENT - Privacy Policy
Effective: 2026-10-11.
OmegaHood LLC (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is the controller of the data described in this policy. This policy applies only to the official VpnHood! CLIENT app.
We never sell your data on any platform. On iOS, the app sends nothing about you to us or to any third party, except what it needs to connect: that goes only to the VPN server you choose and the addresses its access key names, as described under VPN Servers Are Separate.
Data We Collect
Except on iOS, the app sends pseudonymous usage and diagnostic data to Google Analytics. The data is linked to a Client ID, not to your name or contact details. It may include:
- the Client ID;
- a country, from your device’s region setting or your connection, never a precise location;
- app version, language, operating system, device model, and browser engine;
- app launches, screens used, session duration, and connection results;
- usage totals: the amount of VPN traffic and the number of connections, never what they carried;
- a rating you give in the app, with any text you add; and
- technical error messages shown by the app.
We do not send browsing history, websites visited, or traffic content to Google Analytics.
The Client ID is a one-way hash that includes the app’s identity. It is not a serial number, phone number, or advertising ID. On Android, it is derived from the Android ID, a value Android gives the app that changes when the device is factory reset, so it may remain the same after reinstalling the app. On iOS, Windows, and Linux, it is based on a random value the app creates when it first runs; on iOS, reinstalling the app produces a new Client ID, while Windows and Linux keep it with the app’s data, so updating or reinstalling the app keeps it. A Windows installation updated from an earlier version keeps the Client ID it had, which was derived from your Windows user account.
Analytics is controlled by Settings → Privacy → “Share anonymous usage data”. Turning it off stops analytics and is remembered for later launches. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, as your device’s region setting or your connection tells, analytics stays off until you agree: the app asks you once, with a box you tick yourself. The iOS build does not load Google Analytics or Firebase and does not send analytics or reports to Google.
Feedback and the App’s Log
Sending feedback opens our feedback form, on Google Forms, in your browser. The app keeps a technical log on your device and sends it nowhere: you can read it in the app and share it yourself if you choose.
Network addresses in the log — yours, and those of the servers your device connected to — are replaced by tokens that nobody, including us, can turn back into addresses. Local network addresses stay readable, as they identify nobody.
VPN Servers Are Separate
VpnHood! CLIENT includes no VPN server or access key. The independent operator of the server you choose handles the VPN connection under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not receive, control, or retain that operator’s server data through CLIENT.
To connect, the app sends that server the access key you added, the Client ID, the app version, your operating system, and the rating you last gave in the app, if any; like any server you connect to, it also sees your IP address.
Why We Process Data
Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on your consent for analytics where consent is required, and otherwise on our legitimate interest in understanding app performance, fixing faults, and responding to messages you send. We may also process specific information when required by law or necessary to establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim.
Retention
Analytics is kept under the retention setting configured for our Google Analytics property and is then deleted or aggregated. Feedback, a message, or a log you send us is kept until the issue is resolved and then only as long as reasonably needed for support, security, or a legal claim.
Service Provider and International Transfers
Google LLC processes analytics for us through Google Analytics on builds other than iOS, and the feedback you choose to send through Google Forms. We are based in the United States, and Google may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, international transfers use a recognized safeguard, such as an adequacy decision or approved standard contractual clauses.
Your Privacy Rights
CLIENT has no user account, identity document, or personal profile that we can provide to you. We normally cannot identify you from the pseudonymous analytics we receive. You can stop future analytics at any time in Settings → Privacy. If you contact us with a Client ID or a log that you previously shared, we will handle any deletion or objection right that applies and that we can reasonably verify. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Android Permission
On Android, QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES lets you choose which installed apps use or bypass the VPN.
Children’s Privacy
The app is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have done so, we will delete it. A parent or guardian may contact us below.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when the app, law, or our practices change. We will post the updated policy and change the Effective date. The repository keeps the change history.
